Telepresence and Holography / Holograms - November 2008
Editor’s viewpoint on their differences, likenesses and future...
We all just recently viewed an historic CNN holographic interview on an historic Election Night. CNN stated this type of imaging has never been done before on National TV and I believe that. I haven’t seen anything like it. The live interview caught me by surprise and sure had the “wow” factor attached to it didn’t it? Here’s a link to the actual interview.
CNN Hologram Video
The question now has to be asked. Is it Telepresence?
I’m no expert on the subject but I’m going to throw my hat into the ring, go out on a limb and say yes, I believe it is. Although I know many video conferencing purists are rolling their eyes and grabbing their guns right about now with my statement.
While I do know that Telepresence still hasn’t been universally defined (Houston, we have a problem), here’s how I see it…. Broken down to its simplest form - “tele” (through electronic means) and “presence” (present). This is how I’m justifying my opinion by lumping holography and Telepresence together. Just as Telepresence is surely an offshoot of video conferencing, holographic imaging (like we viewed on CNN) surely has to be considered an offshoot of Telepresence. The interviewer was “telepresent” from Chicago and beamed into the CNN Election Headquarters. She was most assuredly - “telepresent”. There was negligible latency, the imaging was fantastic and both interviewers were rehearsed on what they would say. I’ve just recently read that CNN actually “downgraded” the experience to make it “movie” quality and not as good as it could have been. Maybe they thought us mere mortals would be shocked if they showed their complete hand. I have a feeling it was so big to them, they didn’t want it to get upstaged by the historic election. I’m willing to bet we’ll see the “true” power of this technology in the upcoming weeks and months when they can put the pedal to the medal and show it off without having it sidetracked.
What an amazing time for this technology (all differences and opinions aside). Telepresence Doctors, nurses, teachers, schools and healthcare (healthpresence) will benefit from the recent gains in this state-of-the-art industry whether holograms, Telepresence or holography. Airlines also have to see the threat to a portion of their business travel. Hell, who wants go through security and fly to Miami for a two-hour conference when you can look them in the eye via Telepresence?
Beam me up Scotty! Simply amazing…!

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 20, 2008 -- E-Legal World? (http://www.e-legalworld.com/) announced today the launch of their new Live Lawyer? (http://www.e-legalworld.com/lp/live-lawyer.php) Secure and Encrypted Live Video Conferencing and Client Management System, for the International Legal Community.
Developed to meet the needs of attorneys, Live Lawyer? enables even the smallest firms to have state-of-the-art technology at their disposal. With no complicated software to install or expensive hardware to purchase, Live Lawyer? is available for use anywhere an Internet connection and a computer are available. Unlike expensive corporate based video conferencing systems that are not mobile, extremely costly to install and maintain, and most often times not secured with high-level encryption, Live Lawyer? is securely accessible to any attorney and their clients, from anywhere in the world.
Conduct Secure Meetings Online from Anywhere in the World
Live Lawyer's? web-based, high level, encrypted security is available no matter where the point of access is. Lawyers and clients can conduct secure, online audio/video conferences from anywhere there is an internet connection. They can also incorporate the secure text chat feature, as well as send/receive confidential files privately and securely during an audio/video conference, or use these features on their own without voice and video.
Personal Online Lawyer Profile Pages, Meeting System & Secure Client Management System
As a compliment to Live Lawyer, users are provided with an unbranded web page (https://www.e-legalworld.com/livelawyer/profile/BobChowaniec) that they can send clients to for registration and login. These client registration and secure login features can also be easily integrated into a firm's existing web site.
Live Lawyer? attorney and client secure account administration areas incorporate an automated meeting and conference scheduler. By simply logging in, picking a time and date for a meeting, and clicking send, all parties to a meeting are automatically informed of the details by email. In addition, potential clients can go to a lawyer's personal web page, register to become a client, and instantly schedule an introductory meeting with the lawyer. The scheduling system may then be utilized by the client or attorney to schedule future meetings whether they be online, over the phone, or in person
In the secure attorney account administration areas, a lawyer can create client accounts, delete clients from their client roster, schedule meetings with clients, as well as approve, decline, cancel and reschedule meetings that have been requested, view past and future meetings, conduct unscheduled or scheduled online meetings and video conferences, manage and update their private lawyer profile pages, as well as manage their complete schedule. Additionally, the system automatically generates a client time sheet for each online meeting. These time sheets can be a valuable tool that makes billing clients easier.
The meeting system, personal lawyer profile page, and client and lawyer account management areas can be used in 10 languages simultaneously. Currently Live Lawyer supports English, Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Italian, French and Dutch. A client may use the system in their preferred language, while the attorney uses it in theirs.
No Complicated Software or Expensive Hardware to Download or Install - Fully Secured 256 Bit Encryption, From End-to-End
By simply logging into their client and lawyer secure account management areas, with a username and password, meeting attendees may launch the conferencing system, which can then automatically detect a camera and microphone, if installed, and begin a scheduled or unscheduled meeting. Not having a camera or microphone is not a problem with Live Lawyer?. Every element of the system will function whether or not both parties have a web cam or microphone installed and activated, and secure file transfers are made simple whether utilizing the full conference system or just this feature.
Phone calls can be tapped. E-mails can be intercepted. Instant messaging programs are susceptible to trojans and they too can be intercepted. The Live Lawyer? system, however, is fully encrypted from end-to-end so all your communications are safe. Complete attorney-client privilege is achieved at all times through the use of 256 bit encryption for all video, audio, text chat and file uploads. Live Lawyer? employs the same level of encryption banks use to secure credit card and other online transactions. All of these security features work within each and every client and lawyer account, even when an attorney is online with one or more clients simultaneously.
Cost Effective and Timely Legal Technology That Benefits All Parties
By employing Live Lawyer? technology, both lawyers and clients can boost their productivity by reducing administrative and travel time, as well as many of the associated expenses. Phone bills are radically decreased, office administration is streamlined, travel expenses and the associated impact to the environment are reduced, and results can be seen immediately.
